While we strongly encourage students to attend our official walk in Adelaide event, we understand this is not always possible for schools to facilitate.

In this case, you can Walk a Mile in My Boots AT MY SCHOOL during National Homelessness Week (4–10 August), or at a time that suits you.

To register for the Adelaide event, click the Register Adelaide button (to the top right of the page).

Walk a Mile in My Boots AT MY SCHOOL allows your school community to participate in the event at your school or in your local area, and encourages students to better understand homelessness without having to commute to the city.

You can measure out one mile around your oval, school grounds or local streets, and request that each student makes a gold coin donation to participate. To help your students better understand the discomforts of homelessness, perhaps suggest they actively experience a small hardship, such as not eating breakfast or lunch before the walk (and consider a sausage sizzle after the walk as a fundraiser).

It is free for a school to register a Walk a Mile in My Boots AT MY SCHOOL event, however we ask each student provides a gold coin donation to participate.

You may also choose to fundraise in the lead up to your event. Try a ‘beanies casual day’, or host ‘sleep out’ event at your school to encourage students to think about the daily struggles of for people facing homelessness during winter.
